Gene Simmons' 5 Favorite 'Elevated' Horror Movies

By /RollingStone.com

When Gene Simmons and WWE Studios announced they had teamed to make what they called "elevated" horror movies, the word "elevated" raised some eyebrows and not in a Vincent Price kind of way. So Rolling Stone spoke with Kiss' resident Demon to find out just what he meant. "It's not gonna be slasher films and gore, because the easy way out is the cheap, stupid stuff," he says. "Texas Chainsaw? That's fine. Fine for some people. Not my style."

Although Simmons is a fan of A Nightmare on Elm Street, he thinks making "blood and guts" films is too easy. "Horror just means you get the bejesus scared out of you, and I think there are some good modern examples," he says. "Insidious was a great film."

The first movie to be made by Erebus Pictures, Simmons' new company with WWE Studios, is Temple. It centers around a commando team investigating a futuristic supercomputer that has begun behaving strangely. "It feels like Three Days of the Condor meets H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos," Simmons says. "'Temple' is what they call this kind of supercomputer that can do all kinds of things that we never thought of, except there are things that are happening there that no one can understand. Slowly find out, layer by layer, what the hell is going on."

The production company has two other scripts ready to be produced, though Simmons won't tease them ("You don't want to find out what you're getting for Christmas in July, right?"), and he has two he's specifically picked that are waiting in line. Currently, the singer-bassist has no plans to appear in Temple, but he's leaving the door open for cameos in the future movies.

The Mending Kids and Paul Stanley Give the Gift of Sound

Can you imagine a life without a sense of hearing? For Arabella Carter and her parents Nolan and Danielle, this scenario is a painful reality. Arabella suffers from Microtia, a deformity of the outer ear most commonly resulting in hearing loss. Thanks to the Mending Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for the those that suffer from Microtia, along with the support of KISS musician, Paul Stanley, Arabella will receive the costly reconstructive surgery that will not only give her the appearance every child wants, but the gift of sound she's always dreamed of.

Buena Park gets rock star treatment from members of KISS

By LOU PONSI / OC REGISTER

BUENA PARK With Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons from the band KISS wielding shovels resembling guitars, ground was broken Monday for a rock n roll-themed restaurant.

In six months, Rock & Brews, a national chain serving American comfort food and craft beers, is expected to open, featuring rock n roll art, a concert-quality sound system and television monitors playing historical concerts. The Beach Boulevard site is about a quarter-mile north of Knotts Berry Farm, in the heart of Buena Parks entertainment district.

The restaurant will be the chains ninth in the United State and fourth in California, and will welcome children and dogs, feature an outdoor patio and have the chains first beach volleyball court.

Rock & Brews is a rock-inspired, family friendly rock and roll atmosphere, said Stanley, who serves a consultant and spokesman for

the chain along with Simmons. This is going to be Rock & Brews biggest and best restaurant yet.

Stanley and Simmons are also part owners of the LA Kiss indoor football team that plays at the Honda Center.

The 1.4-acre property, which was owned by Buena Parks now-defunct Redevelopment Agency, symbolizes the citys aggressive efforts at revitalizing the area, portions of which had become run down. The property is among 20.6 acres purchased by the redevelopment agency that are being sold off to developers.

The place where we are standing right now was once a blighted motel, City Manager Jim Vanderpool said. What a great new family friendly attraction we are bringing to the city.

Rock & Brews

Where: 7777 Beach Blvd., Buena Park

Opening: Scheduled for summer

Size: 6,750 square feet with a 3,400-square-foot outdoor patio, a beach volleyball court and parking for more than 100 vehicles

Menu: Will serve American comfort food and have a full bar with craft beer and wine

Decor: Will feature rock-themed art, a stage for live entertainment and flat-screen televisions streaming concert footage

Impact: The new restaurant is expected to take in about $4 million in annual sales and create 150 new permanent jobs, along with dozens of temporary construction jobs, according to a city staff report.
