Rockers KISS come to Kay County for groundbreaking on very first Rock & Brews Casino Resort

By Jimmie Tramel Tulsa World

BRAMAN Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of the rock band KISS are teaming up with partners, including the Kaw Nation, to bring a shiny new casino resort to a tiny town in north-central Oklahoma.

The obvious question: Why here?

And I say why not? Stanley said at a news conference Thursday to announce the Rock & Brews Casino Resort that will spring up alongside Interstate 35 in the Kay County town of Braman.

Someone just said to me Why would you do it in the middle of nowhere? And I said Everywhere is somewhere. Theres no such thing as nowhere.

People dont choose where theyre born and people should be proud of where they are from, and every big idea starts in someplace probably improbable. So, for us, being here, were proud to be here.

Simmons and Stanley traveled to Braman for the news conference, which temporarily doubled Bramans population, listed at 217 at the time of the 2010 U.S. census.

There was seating for 208 inside a heated tent where the gathering was staged. The only reason there were a few empty chairs is because many people chose to stand and watch the rock stars deliver big news.

You dont know how big this is going to become, Simmons told reporters. Youve got to remember, Las Vegas was desert once upon a time. Now 44 million people come into Las Vegas every year. If we get 1/100th of that coming here, its going to be an explosion.

According to a fact sheet, the casino resort will include a 250-room hotel with a spa and fitness center, a 77,528-square-foot casino, a bingo hall, a conference center, four luxury retail stores, a travel plaza/truck stop and a 1,500-seat events center.

Simmons said he and Stanley will return for the grand opening if everybody lets us. Since an events center is part of the resort, will KISS perform?

Everything is possible, Simmons said, adding that the band has been coming to Oklahoma since before some of the reporters in attendance were born.

Per the casino name, the resort will of course include a Rock & Brews Restaurant. Rock & Brews is a rock-inspired restaurant and entertainment concept founded by Simmons, Stanley and their partners.

The first Rock & Brews opened near Los Angeles International Airport in April 2012, and expansion led to locations in other places, including Oklahoma City.

Other dining options at Braman will include a 100-seat restaurant, a World Tour Cafe and a Start Me Up coffee outlet.

Stanley, Simmons, representatives of the Kaw Nation and others grabbed shovels for a groundbreaking photo op while standing in front of an artists rendering of the Rock & Brews Casino Resort. Stanley said the facility will be amazing, like nothing anyone here has seen.

Said Simmons: It isnt just going to be a fancy place where rock stars and beautiful women and gaming is going to go on. Its actually going to substantially increase everybodys life quality in and around the area. People are going to come here from all over the world.

Simmons talked about how the casino resort will raise the profile of the Kaw Nation and benefit the tribe. He said he mentioned the Kaw Nation while appearing on national news shows, and viewers heard for the first time in their lives Kaw Nation, and thats great.

Kaw Nation Chair Jacque Secondine Hensley took a turn at the microphone and said, Can you believe this is happening here in Braman? She said the casino resort will spark economic growth and provide more than 1,000 construction-related and permanent jobs.

Im so thrilled that this is happening finally for Kaw Nation, she said. Its not only just going to give jobs to some of our citizens, but it will also give eyeglasses and dentures and college assistance, so Im just overwhelmed.

After a real groundbreaking, the casino resort is expected to be completed in approximately two years.

Simmons, when asked about bringing the resort to a map-dot town in Oklahoma, segued into a history lesson. He said people forget that everything begins small including birth and how you treat growth is the most important thing.

If, at the outset, the intention is to create jobs and be good neighbors and be civic-minded and all that stuff, thats good, he said.

Because all little towns didnt start off that way. The California Gold Rush, there were lots of people who were in it for themselves and didnt care about whether or not they were going to create jobs or anything. They were all for me, all for me. That resulted in lawlessness and all kinds of stuff.

Youre talking about a Kaw Nation that has a long history and very important cultural ties to themselves and the nation, America. And they have children and families. They want to feed their families and children and they want to make sure theyre great partners to everybody living in the area.

KISS rocks out with Chesterfield mayor at Rock & Brews grand opening

KISS bandmates Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley added a little rock n roll to Chesterfield on Wednesday during the grand opening of their new restaurant, Rock & Brews.

On hand to rock out was Chesterfield Mayor Bob Nation, Rock & Brews CEO Mike Sully Sullivan, and franchise owner Kirk Williams. The Chesterfield location, at 17258 Chesterfield Airport Road in the Chesterfield Commons Shopping Center, is Williams third Rock & Brews restaurant. He also operates the locations in Oklahoma City and Overland Park, Kansas.

The 8,600-square-foot restaurant, which opened for business in November, seats 300 and has a 1,600-square-foot patio that is dog friendly. Spiegelglass Construction Co. was the general contractor.

Its not a theme restaurant. Those types and franchises, in general, are really a way to sell merchandise and the food is secondary at best, Stanley told the Business Journal in November. The background is certainly the classic rock music we all love, but its not a funeral parlor with dead musicians shoes on the wall.

The grand opening also served as a fundraiser for St. Louis Fisher House, which provides lodging for family and caregivers of veterans who are in need of long-term care.

The Manhattan Beach, California-based Rock & Brews chain was founded in 2012, and the company generated $75 million in revenue in 2016, Stanley previously told the Business Journal.

Colors Schimerys Baal
Cover Lucio Parrillo, Shouri Catman Emoji (cover B),
Publisher Dynamite Entertainment

Synopsis

Twin troublemakers Eran and Noa are back home. They now know Blackwells secrets, but will anyone believe them? Fortunately, they have some tricks up their sleeves, and with some help from KISS, they are about to turn their world upside down

Art

Kewbers artwork is solid throughout this issue. He creates the perfect atmosphere in this issue with his art style. This issue has more energy and fun packed into this issue. This is a result of the colors and Kewbers use of Body language.

Every characters body language suits perfectly with their expression and mood. The expressions are at times like an actor over acting however, this makes the visuals enjoyable to watch and enhances their emotional investment in a scene.

The backgrounds and settings where drawn with a minimalistic detail. As a result, they were nice visuals that brought panels together. There are some panels where there is only color and this do a brilliant job at highlighting the main focus of the panel.

Colors

Schimerys colors are fantastic. They are vibrant that gives the comic that fun uplifting feel. There is a scene where the colors enhance the effect and power of the visuals. Baals shading is subtle but effective.

Writing

Amy proves that she is indeed a fan of KISS with this issue. This issue has great references to KISS history that will please any fan. However, this is not just fan service as each element introduced fits the narrative and moves to story along.

Our main protagonists continue to develop in this issue. Development has been slow in this series so far however, here is when the development begins. We begin to root and bond with these characters due to Amys writing abilities.

Amy manages again to blend lyrics into dialogue perfectly. Amy also acknowledges a past member of KISS in a way it feels like a fitting tribute. This issue fully capitalizes on the mythos of KISS.

Overall

This is another great issue that is written by KISS fans for KISS fans. This is an issue anyone can enjoy as its fun and entertaining, thats what you want in a comic like this. The best way to read this issue is to have KISS playing in the background.
