KISS LIVE AT JONES BEACH

Posted by The G

Though I've never been the biggest fan of Kiss' music, I've always had great respect and appreciated the bits and pieces I've seen of their stage shows, their legions of devoted fans and the fact that they've been around since 1973 and are still going! As I've been so blessed to see so many amazing artists perform, I owed it to myself to see the legendary Kiss. They are worth all the accolades they receive as they are phenomenal live. Jones Beach in New York is located literally on the water, so that by itself makes for a magical night and seeing the legendary Kiss on August 14, 2010 at this venue is definitely one for the books.

They had a really great LED screen behind them projecting trippy visuals, a huge flashing KISS logo, fireworks, rising bits of the stage, and of course most importantly, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons decked out in their finest Kiss gear! The audience was a very eclectic mix of people and I saw so many kids (literally 5 years old and less) with their parents in Kiss makeup!Posted by The G

The audience was a very eclectic mix of people and I saw so many kids (literally 5 years old and less) with their parents in Kiss makeup! Pictures of that are coming soon, so stay tuned. Some people say Rock and Roll is dead. Judging from the crowd at the Kiss show, I'd say Rock and Roll is very much alive, it's just morbidly obese. Coming soon, I'll be posting a video I took of my favorite Kiss song "Deuce" so stay tuned for that. The band played all the songs a casual fan such as myself would want to hear such as "Beth," "Rock and Roll All Nite," "Lick It Up," and "Detroit Rock City." Paul Stanley invited many crowd sing-a-longs, Gene Simmons stuck out his enormously large tongue many times, Eric Singer performed a drum solo while he was over 50 feet high in the air and Tommy Thayer did a guitar solo with his guitar behind his head. What more could you ask for?

The setlist for Kiss at Jones Beach was:

Modern Day Delilah / Cold Gin / Let Me Go, Rock and Roll / Firehouse / Say Yeah / Deuce / Crazy Crazy Nights / Calling Dr. Love / Shock Me / Im an Animal / 100,000 Years / I Love It Loud / Love Gun / Black Diamond / Detroit Rock City.

Encore:

Beth / Lick It Up / Shout Out Loud / I Was Made For Lovin You / God Gave Rock and Roll To You II (Argent Cover) / Rock and Roll All Nite.

KISS AT MONTAGE MOUNTAIN TONIGHT

Kiss commits to great performance

Susan Koomar, Features Editor

Drummer Eric Singer offers some compelling reasons to see Kiss at Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain on Sunday.

"Bring the family. It's Kiss for all ages. Even if you never liked Kiss or never saw Kiss, you'll walk away with a smile on your face," he said.

There's also the band's iconic status.

"You should see Kiss once in your life - like seeing Mount Rushmore or Yellowstone or the Statue of Liberty," Singer added.

Singer offered a glimpse behind the scenes - and the group's elaborate makeup - during a phone interview with jumpstart!

Singer starts painting his face about two hours before each show.

"The one thing I've learned is you have to go for consistency and find a system of what works for you. You can't rush it," he said.

The prep process is far more involved for front man Gene Simmons, who gets help donning his heavy, bulky costume.

The prep process is far more involved for front man Gene Simmons, who gets help donning his heavy, bulky costume.

"Gene really gets in character. He really is that demon. I get a kick out of it because he's very intense," Singer said. Off stage? That's a different matter. "I think he's a big marshmallow, a big softee."

Singer admires Simmons's commitment and determination.

"I've seen Gene sick - think about the sickest you've ever been - but he'll put his head down and get focused. It's always 100 percent. You don't get to call in sick. We never miss a show. The show must go on," said Singer.

Kiss started "The Hottest Show on Earth" tour in the U.S. last month. A portion of ticket sales benefit the Wounded Warrior program.
