KISS SHOW WILL BE BIGGEST EVER IN MACKAY

Tickets almost gone for huge KISS concert in Mackay

Gene Simmons' face will be seen 25 times bigger when it's displayed on a screen at what is looking to be Mackay's biggest concert.

Kiss will perform at Virgin Australia Stadium next Saturday and only a few hundred tickets were left, MECC manager Mark Fawcett said.

"When people drive down Juliet St they'll see a huge LED screen," Mr Fawcett said.

"The stage just arrived from Sydney and that is the first delivery of the convoy of 18 trucks involved.

"Logistically this is huge. We've got 100 personnel to look after production."Tickets almost gone for huge KISS concert in Mackay

Mr Fawcett said about 5000 people from outside Mackay would travel to see Kiss play.

"The town should be pumping next weekend," he said.

"I don't believe there's a hotel room (still) available."

Meanwhile DIY Party supplies owner Haydn Tunnah said Kiss costumes and face paint were available at the store.

"Someone will be doing Kiss face painting in store on Saturday," Mr Tunnah said.

"There's been a steady demand for face paint and I expect during the week it will be a lot busier."

Backpacks specially ordered from London will be just one of the features Grinders Corporate Catering will utilise at the concert.

The company will handle the catering for the night of rock, and it's their biggest job yet.

Grinders Corporate Catering managing director Sonya Parris said the response to recruitment for 250 staff members had been overwhelming.

"We had a tremendous response from applicants," Ms Parris said.

"There are a number of roles being filled by people.

"The backpacks we have were utilised in London at the Olympics and they will have hot food in them and soft drinks.

"We'll have ice-cream trolleys selling official Kiss icy poles which were released on their original tour in 1980 and have been re-released for this event."

Staff include beverage pourers, cooks and forklift operators to move pallets of products. Set-up will begin on Monday.
