I'm the guy holding the KISS sign on the ALIVE II cover sleeve

Posted on 09/26/2022

This photo was taken on August 29, 1977 at the San Diego Sports Arena. How do I know? I was there and I am the guy holding the KISS sign. Here's the story: I was 14 and I won tickets from a local radio station, B-100. My older brother Joe and I went and we had 12th row seats straight in front of Ace. Joe had made a KISS sign in woodshop and then covered it with tin foil. I took it to the concert and held it up....a lot! I'm a tall guy and even then I was 6'1". I wore a gray, zip up hoodie with my sleeves rolled up past my elbows, which is something I still do today. The main photo was taken at the end of "Rock and Roll All Night". I know because you can see the confetti coming down. The photo of me in the upper right corner looks odd because it was added into the shot afterwards. This was before Photoshop. Also, the angle looks wierd because I was actually on the left and not the right. The photographer probably shot that photo during intermission when I was at my seat. Even MORE cool....I'm in the middle of the photo as well. Look for the silver KISS sign and the follow the hands. I can also see my left hand as well as my eye and forehead. So that's the story behind this photo. I've told it to a few friends over the years but now, since we are all older, I want to get it out. I am %100 certain that is me. On their last stop in San Diego, Paul mentioned hown the photo was taken at the Sports Arena. So yeah, I'm the guy holding the KISS sign on the cover sleeves of KISS ALIVE II. Pretty cool!!!! - Lewis Booth
