A review of the new KISS book Nothin� To Lose from a philosophical and psychological perspective�Getting inside the mind of four Superheroes who believed in their dreams and made them real, against all odds� �And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.� �Nietzsche I remember when I was 8 years old and I saw the cover of KISS: ALIVE II. I wanted to have it. I�ve been fascinated by superheroes ever since I was 4 or 5 years old; Fascinated by Batman and Dracula and a bunch of other superheroes. Ever since then I have loved what KISS is. I am now 44 and I have been practicing Psychology for 16 years. I have come to love KISS� music and the larger than life universe they have created for all of us. There have always been people who can�t understand why I love them so much. Why so many of US love them so much. They can�t understand my love for them because they haven�t REALLY taken the time to listen to their songs, to let themselves fall prey for the Rocker Superhero World they have created. Yes, there are some who hate KISS. Why? Either because they�re jealous that they didn�t think of the idea first, or they think four guys in make-up who play really loud Rock and Roll are just plain ridiculous, which in all truth could mean that they can�t see past the make-up because they forbid themselves to seem uncool for being grownups who still love Superman or Spiderman. Another reason could be because they haven�t really sat down to see through all the war paint and really listen to their music. These are people who might be embarrassed to show that they still have THE HEART OF A KID inside them. These people will never understand KISS, they will never experience what a real KISS fan experiences when he or she gets hit by the hottest band in the world. Not only has KISS given me the best entertainment and the best rock music one could ask for, KISS has given me the right amount of FAITH, COURAGE and HOPE to believe in my dreams and NEVER QUIT OR GIVE UP on them!!! I just finished reading NOTHIN� TO LOSE: The Making of KISS (1972-1975) and I realized that these guys are REAL SUPERHEROES. Reading how they survived against all odds, how they kept being hit from every angle by everything around them and keeping the faith, the hope and the courage to keep going, not quitting at the first sign of trouble, really makes me love them even more. It makes me RESPECT them so much, that they have earned my ADMIRATION as real SUPERHEROES. If you read this book YOU WILL realize how many times they had the opportunity to QUIT and didn�t. They had the right situations around them to GIVE UP, the BEATING and POUNDING of REAL LIFE to knock them in their faces, to even SPIT on them, only to KEEP BELIEVING IN THEMSELVES, only to have the BALLS and the BOLDNESS to SPIT back at ANY HELLISH ADVERSITY that presented itself, even when they were drowned by the AVALANCHES of problems and mishappenings. Even in those adversities they KEPT FIGHTING, THEY NEVER GAVE UP. Believe me, while I was reading the book I said to myself, �my God, how did these guys kept believing, how come they didn�t quit!!! I would�ve given up way before, way faster!!!� These guys are the REAL DEAL and I will be forever in their debt for showing me what real men are made of; even if they are not perfect men. They are real men; LONG LIVE KISS and THANK YOU for teaching me the value of believing in me and never giving up despite any adversities that may come. KISS never gave up came HELL OR HIGH WATER. So, after all these years, now I just don�t love KISS because of them being the best band in the world, I love them ALSO because they have been REAL SUPERHEROES in my life!!!
