AUTO SHOW

Posted on 05/18/2011
Gene, I recently had the opportunity of a lifetime to get to meet you and the rest of the band at the auto show, at the Javits center, NYC. I was working at the Javits that week setting up for the show when I got word that Kiss would be doing an appearance for a charity cause. I was coming off a 12 hour shift ,and stayed an extra 4 hours just to get a chance to see the band face to face. I stood there, the lone fan amongst a small group of of 3 or 4 photographers in the small vestibule by the elevator ,waiting for the doors to open , As Tommy walked by, he shook my hand , said what's up, and as you were whisked by, I said " what's up Gene?", and you replied "just another day above ground". After the presentation, I was hanging out back stage to hopefully get a picture with the band, but to my disappointment , I didn't get the chance, being it was such a small , intimate venue, and it was tightly scheduled, it was kind of choatic. But my disappointment quickly faded, when i heard a voice of one of my co-workers ask from within the choas if you would take a photo with his little boy. You literally stopped in your tracks , and said "of course I will ! " Then proceeded to take a photo with the boy and his father. I gained a whole new respect for you that day. Ive come across alot of celebrities over the years , and more times than not , they will walk right by you , and not give you a second glance. The fact that you stopped to take the time for that man and his boy, amongst all the confusion, to me, was impressive. I've always respected you as a musician , but now I respect you as a person as well. I figured I would share a good Kiss story with the fans . Even though I didnt get a picture with you , and will probably never get the chance to meet you face to face again, My experience was a positive one , as you showed that you can be famous , and still be human. Just wanted let you know it didnt go unnoticed. God bless. Chris G.
