My KISS Story

Posted on 03/26/2010
Dear KISS, It seems to me that for my entire 12 years of living, you have always been there. For as long as I can remember I have known the lyrics to Shout It Out Loud. Maybe it was because of my mom who really knows her classic rock. She was into Van Halen (Roth era), Led Zepplin, Bad Company and KISS. She went to see you on the Animalized tour and still has the book which is totally awesome. So it is from her where I get my musical influence. I seem to be the only kid in my grade who wears KISS t-shirts, once had a KISS toothbrush, has all four KISS mm's, is a member of the KISS ARMY, and has ever heard good music. These kids that listen to rap at my school have no idea what music is. Music in my terms is something that you can understand and appreciate all the talent that goes into it. I'm not saying that rap singers are not talented, it's just that what they do isn't music. So anyway, I find it difficult to convince my friends that just because on the outside KISS is dark (and in my friends opinions gothic) but on the inside their music is amazing. So on the last day of the semester we were talking about KISS and my friend asked the teacher if she was ever into KISS (my friend thinks I'm the only person to ever listen to KISS) and surprisingly enough she was. Or for my spanish class we had to write a paragraph about our favorite celebrity, and of course I chose none other than Paul Stanley. Of course my spanish teacher asked me if that was the guy from KISS, and I said yes. Well then she started talking about how she snuck out to see you in concert when she was a kid. It is really weird to think about your teachers of having lives, let alone having live that involve KISS. I can always tell the difference between Paul and Gene when singing, but when I first listened to All For the Glory I was stumped I concluded that it is Eric Singer and I believe that I am correct. I feel that there is no band other than you guys that could be a greater roll model for kids. You don't do drugs, drink uncontrollably and you set a pretty good example, unlike today's stars that are always getting arrested. And so that leaves me with nothing more to say except to PLEASE sing Shout It Out Loud in Minot for me in July. See you there!!!!! Your biggest 12 year old fan, Nick H.
